A violin, bears handwritted label inscribed John Betts, WII near Northgate The Royal Exchange London 1801. With 2 bows one stamped H.Walter Zapf and a 1920s case.

John Edward Betts (1755-1823) was a Luthier (a crafter of stringed instruments). Betts was the leading instrument dealer of his time being one of the first to import Italian instruments.
